New Food Contract

The Florida Department of Corrections will save about $8 million dollars in the coming year thanks to a new DOC food service contract with AMAMARK issued today, said DOC secretary Michael Moore.
The new contract will serve 70,000 inmates at 132 sites cutting the cost from about $80 million to about $72 million by the end of the following year. This is a 9 percent cost reduction for the FDOC and the department is excited about the new spending opportunities.
"This is an outstanding opportunity for ARAMARK to create economic value for the DOC,” said Norm Miller, president of AMAMARK.
However, according to several Florida wardens the quality of food and service time has greatly decreased.
Although the DOC said that kitchen staffs would keep their jobs as security workers, several Florida wardens said that security would be needed to help with fights occurring in the cafeterias caused by frustration with lack of food and long lines.
